Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph’s hometown university, is the home of a scintillating slate of entertaining offerings from music, art, and theatre to athletics.

Music: Western’s Music Department offers Thursday Noon Concerts throughout the year as well as virtuoso performances by faculty and talented students. The Music Department happens to be the only All-Steinway School in the area and is the major sponsor of the St. Joseph Symphony. Whether your taste is classical, jazz, choral, or modern, there is something for everyone being offered for those who enjoy good music performed live for your entertainment. Most events are offered at minimal or no cost to the public. Art: Western is the wellspring of artistic talent on display in the Potter Hall Gallery with exhibits continuously open to the public 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Both faculty and students provide the public with breathtakingly fresh exhibits of the best in visual arts. Theatre: Western’s Theatre and Cinema Department offers an exciting selection of productions during the school year. Under the skillful leadership of newly appointed Director Alan Arrivee and professors Donald Lillie, Kelly Wittenberg, and Kevin Brown the 2010 spring selections offered in the University’s Potter Hall Theater and Black Box Theater all are united by a theme: Past and Present Compared: The Prophetic Play. In addition, the University is offering its annual Griffon International Film Festival in March and Student Film Competition in April.
